Hey, k-otic, if it's no big secret, what program do you use to convert your files? I've been using DivX Author, but for some reason it's been cutting out on me when I go to edit files, hence for now I can't do any editing. Any suggestions? Maybe time to try a new app?

I use VirtaulDube for the conversion process of my Video Tapes
mainly because of the filter collection by CS MSU Graphics & Media Lab which can sometimes help alot, to improve the image quality, if you are use an poor analoge source
http://www.virtualdub.org
http://compression.ru/video/index.htm

For the digital editing I use AviDemux
http://avidemux.org

A pretty good and reliable tool for Audio/Video out of sync problems, frame by frame editing, removing of bad fremas and for removing unwanted watermarks and such problems

For some more advanced problems i use
http://www.lightworksbeta.com and
http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html

Thanks for the reply and I saved the links. When I have time I'll try these out. I've been a strict Divx user for about the last 6 years and for the most part found it suitable for my needs, but I guess the time has come to branch out a little bit as lately I'm starting to feel limited as far as the creativity of what I can do. Definitely feel I've become too dependent on DivX over the years. I'd also like to see what there is to write better looking menus for my homemade dvds, so when I play them they'll have more of a "store-bought" look.
